ABOUT US

A Rich History of Learning

Dayton Avenue School is located in Manorville, New York, originally opened in 1970 as a junior high school serving students in the South Manor Union Free School District. Prior to regional district consolidation, it functioned alongside South Street School to educate the local student population, housing upper elementary and middle school grades (grades 4 through 9) before students transitioned to neighboring high schools for upper secondary education. Following the merger of the Eastport Union Free School District and the South Manor Union Free School District in 2003 to form the Eastport-South Manor Central School District, the building underwent modern renovations and structural expansion to support changing district demographics. Today, Dayton Avenue School serves as an elementary school within the Eastport-South Manor Central School District, providing education for third through sixth-grade students.

School Information

Welcome! Our goal is to nurture, inspire, and challenge every student every day. Explore the resources and communication tools below to keep your family connected and up to date all year long.

  •

Please make sure you call the attendance office at 631-801-3085 when your child is absent.  Once your child returns to school, please send in a note with him/her stating the dates and reason(s) why they were absent from school. If your child arrives late to school, he/she must be signed into school by an adult at the main entrance.

  • Common Sense Media is the digital citizenship program that we use at Dayton Avenue School for our students. Click here for the Common Sense Media website which has more information for parents and students about digital citizenship and age appropriate guides to television, movies, websites and apps.

  •

I strongly encourage parents to try and schedule all activities and appointments after the school day.  Children will only be released to parents/guardians or emergency contacts. Photo Identification is required when releasing children to ensure your child’s safety. Please be aware that family members, neighbors, babysitters, etc. under the age of 18 cannot pick up your child under any circumstances. On a final note, early dismissal should be a rare occurrence. Picking your child up early from school will make them miss important information and/or prescribed services.

  • Please update your Emergency Contact Information in Infinite Campus as soon as possible. Also, please give careful consideration to the additional names you submit; these persons should be easily accessible to the school, and people to whom you will entrust the care of your child in the event we are unable to reach you in an emergency.

  • The Shared Decision Making Committee is a mandatory committee required by the New York State Education Department. The committees meet regularly at each school, and are comprised of teachers, parents, administrators, and community members. The purpose of SDM is to work together on activities and initiatives that benefit the total student body.

Shared decision making is driven by the belief that the most effective choices are made when those affected by the decisions are involved in the decision making process. It is a process by which members of the educational community cooperate in identifying and implementing activities to advance and improve learning.
